GUIDE
Back up automatically to a NAS or Windows share
Save your Android photos and documents automatically to a NAS or Windows share (SMB) over your home Wi-Fi. No cloud required.
What you need
- An Android device with ShareOrBackup installed (Android 8.0 or later)
- A NAS, or a Windows PC with an SMB share
- Your phone and the destination on the same Wi-Fi network
Setup steps
- Enable sharing on the destination
On a NAS, enable SMB (Windows sharing). On a Windows PC, create a shared folder and allow file sharing. - Pick your NAS (usually auto-detected)
On the same Wi-Fi, the app finds your NAS automatically and lists it. Normally you just pick it - no manual setup. - (Only if it is not listed) Add it manually
Choose Add device → SMB and enter the address (IP or host name), port (usually445), share name, username and password. If guest access is disabled, a username and password are required. - Pick folders
Choose the folder on your device and the shared folder to store the backup. - Turn on automatic backup
From then on, files are saved automatically whenever you are on the same Wi-Fi.
If it will not connect
- Guest access is often disabled → set a username and password
- Not listed → auto-discovery uses default ports (SMB
445/1445) only. For custom ports or when it is not detected, add it manually - On Windows, allow "File and printer sharing" in the firewall
Backing up to a USB drive
Even without a NAS or PC, you can connect a USB drive or external storage to your device and pick it as the destination.
Connecting with SFTP
If your NAS or server offers SSH (SFTP), choose SFTP instead in the same flow. Traffic is encrypted.
